I was looking for some books on a subject that I forget but in my quest to find the particular book I came across this book Books: A Memoir by Larry McMurtry on the net so next thing I have ordered it from a dealer.

Now all I have to do is wait, it arrived soon enough & I started to read it, what a goldmine of information about book collecting mainly U.S.A.  But really its an excellent book for those of us that like to pursue old books or rare books, paperbacks, hardcovers & pamphlets. Who would ever want to go to Woodstock & get muddy, smashed and stoned when you could go back in time and see all of the the shops he mentions and discover a treasure or two.

I know that I will be reading this again for the information that is on every page. From the people he worked with and for the characters he met, the towns & shops he visited.

He runs a bookshop Booked up inc in Archer City Texas  it reportedly has some four hundred thousand books thats a lot books Larry.

Do you know any books like this that you think I might like? I’m always looking for interesting stories on book collectors any country.

Outback Tales Outback Tales by Chesney Gardner

This a book written by Chesney Gardener he worked for ABC Radio from Newcastle. It is a compilation of short stories about old Australia, well before mobile phones why the only person that I knew that had a phone like that was Dick Tracy, when an air bag was a balloon, when seat belts & children’s safety seats didn’t exist. The closest we came to the internet in science fiction movie.

Since the first time I saw Twitter it just seemed a nice simple thing for me to communicate with other people. Now what about if I could use it to search for books. So this really for those people that want to find books used new any sort of book you want. I like the idea of simple to use interface quick. My website by the way is Lake Macquarie Secondhand Books If  you have any questions leave a message.

On my way to work this morning my wife said lets go to the garage sale at Sunshine yeah sure that’s okay. Well after we found it no street numbers. There were no books in site. Oh well you get that.

Lets go to work now oh by the way theres a deceased estate at Cooranbong, we won’t be to late okay lets go. So then I hang a right on Freemans Drive keep going  till we see a sale. As I’m going over Red Hill don’t you know it but that looks like Elvis waving to the cars on the side of the road, “thank you very much”.

But were on a mission, we find the house but were early or so were told by a friendly old man out the front of the house in question. So we decide to have a chat to pass the time, listen to a few yarns if you will. Before you know it the time has passed and were in looking but no books.

As I’m walking out I asked a lady if there were any books Oh yes theres lots inside come in, jackpot well kind of but we at least found some nice books for the day.

On our way home Elvis is still there waving.
