A good book has no ending. ~R.D. Cumming

Yesterday we wanted to look at some new books so for a change we went to Westfield Tuggerah for me that was the first time for about three years. It had had nothing to do seeing that I had nearly finished Stieg Larsson’s

the man who left to soon

Stieg Larsson

first book of the Millennium Trilogy The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo I simply have to read the rest of his book I enjoyed from start to finish in one hit all others were on hold to it was finished, rare for me. I also brought a few copies of Truman Capote’s book In Cold Blood, we even lucked in on some Nora Roberts Romance Fiction, Peter Watt Australian Fiction, Bill Tuckey true crime books on our customers want list, and we are always looking for books for people its part of the job, if your looking for a book then send me an Contact Jim or Phone 0249 735 925

Mixture of fiction

We left late and in the end had lunch at McDonalds YUK enough said. What was strange for us is we never even went into a used book shop this must be a first time I think I have ever gone to Wyong or anywhere for that matter and not even looked in a charity shop or bookshop.

If your looking used bookshop around our area take a look at my Google maps to see where the other bookshops are around our area.

With all the rain today, she who must be obeyed said “Lets go to Toronto you need your medicine, yes right okay I have two minutes to get in the car.

Grand opening

Off we go down the wet road all the way to Toronto, first stop lets have a quick look at the Salvation Army shop, what a surprise for us when we went the new book section was finished but had a ribbon across the entrance. Can we go in? No it will be opening in about half an hour, great we can wait for that. Anne is having fun looking at the bargains around the shop.
Me I just went out the front and started to play with my trusty little digital camera while I’m waiting when I noticed a crowd at the back of the shop.
Well I better go and have a look, of course I’m off to have a look, what do you know? Here is the unveiling of the new used books section, out with the camera and snap a few shots of the local Minister cutting the ribbon.
Then we are all allowed to go in and have a look, all the workers and me. I’m like a kid in a candy shop, looking at the good used books.  I chose a few biographies a nice local history book.
If you know Anne she’s talking to everyone, meeting friends from around the western side of Lake Macquarie I’m sure she knows everyone from Warners Bay to Morisset. Soon Anne is in the book room hunting for those extra good used books that everyone is looking for as usual Anne selected some great fictionnon-fiction books, while I’m looking for my glasses now where did I put them?
Then in walks Faye a friend from our old  bookshop. After we picked our books, Anne had her bargains for everyones birthday for the next twelve months, we are off  to see the grandkids which turned out to be a quick trip,  but first a bowl of pumkin soup cup of tea, then its bye bye Kate & co.
We can go back to work now seeing we left Leslie in the shop all on his lonesome and he had to leave and go and deliver some flyers to the local businesses while we had a little break oh happy Friday wish I could go camping.

When you work in a used bookshop you met all sorts of people, the overwhelming majority    are so nice its amazing. why just this morning a lady came into the shop she was just browsing  &  I didn’t even see her as a matter of fact, when I did I thought it was my wife Anne but no it  wasn’t. I was getting ready for a new day. “Excuse me can you tell me where the fantasy section  is?”  “yes” I’m only too happy to do that, a little while latter with the selection of second hand fantasy books of her choice, paid for and in a recycled bag.
We struck up a conversation about the our bookshop and how she drove past every day for well over twelve months but wasn’t game to call in because of her fear that it might be a bookshop of a more ribald type, no we just sell books now I’m sure we do have some various books that may fit into a erotic or lurid or even pornographic but very few indeed.
Every now and then we get someone trying to sell me nudist books or old magazines but as a rule I don’t want these or magazines. We never get many second hand books of that type maybe the people don’t like to let them go.
If you want to sell your book  email me at .  Wanted Erotic Used Books or call Jim at (02) 4973 5925

Since the advent of the internet you can find books nearly anywhere. From well worn used copies of James A Michener’s Hawaii to more modern works like Tim Winton’s The Riders one thing is certain you won’t have trouble finding those titles and many other titles.

But then there are also books you will always have trouble tracking down maybe it was a limited production run or anyone of a multitude reasons that lead to a small production run of this title. I know I could list thousands of titles like this.

So where do you find that old used book?

A more direct list reads like this.

  1. AbeBooks.com
  2. BookFinder.com
  3. BookFinder4You
  4. Amazon
  5. ebay
  6. Lake Macquarie Secondhand Books
  7. Google Books

Only the last one Lake Macquarie Secondhand Books will let you ring and talk to an expert.

this service runs from 6.00 am in the morning till around midnight 7 days per week 365 days per year.

Sure you can send us an email, make an inquiry that way if thats what you want.

I know that most of the time when I buy books on the net I just look at it read the description very slowly once, twice even three times, then I order it, if its a more expensive book then I might ask for a picture, or a more detailed description, I usually get express post, less time for damage.

In over 7 years of buying all sorts of used books on the net from so many different countries that I have lost count, from very cheap paperbacks, to very expensive copies of rare books worth thousands of dollars.

With only a hand full of these books have I been disappointed. I can tell you the titles for those just nosey here they are When Rabbits Howl by Truddi Chase, Above the World by Dick & Pip Smith they were just so wrong, bad description a sign of the complete ineptitude of the bookseller, you can be assured that I will not support them again. It usually happens that you will get a better book in the near future. This is some form of karma for used book dealers the theory of which I alone experience every day.

Does this make me the Clint Eastwood of book sellers? Well no not really but sometimes my imagination goes wild a kind of “Do you feel lucky punk”? Well when it comes to finding used books yes Clint I do!  Yes Clint I’am very lucky. Or email Jim Owens for all your used book needs.
